Dawid Planeta, a polish artist and a graphic designer summons gigantic beasts in his serious of grayscale illustrations set in a mysterious land. His work title, Mini People in the Jungle explores the artist’s personal experience with depression, visualizing the mental journey through dark times. Planeta also explains that it’s a story of a man descending into darkness and chaos in search of himself.
A small figure also appears through the poignant series. The artist has seen wandering through the fog-filled labyrinth. He has been bravely facing the ominous jungle animals who feature glowing eyes that illuminate the darkness. These animals seem to be guiding the artist through the deep jungle. Planeta explains “When he knows who he is, he goes there again, this time without fear. He goes there because it’s a part of who he is. It’s a part of human nature you can’t ignore. You need to know all parts of life, dark and bright.”
Planeta also managed to overcome the difficulty of dealing with depression and change his feelings to creativity. He also states that even though depression is not easy to deal with, when you try you can stop thinking about it and turn it into something brilliant. Planeta says it is also the accomplishment he has gained from his art. “The things I am trying to achieve are dark and mysterious, but if you look closely, you will find passion, excitement, and joy”, he says.
